Introduction || Experience a fascinating birding opportunity in the Mangroves and wetlands of the Southern Part of Bengal. Sundarbans is just not for tigers. The rich mangrove canopy and large uninhabited coastal areas provide a luxurious bird population making Sundarbans a Bird Hotspot. Among 12 species of Kingfishers found in India, Sundarbans alone has eight of them, including Ruddy Kingfisher, Collared Kingfisher, Black-capped Kingfisher, and Brown-winged Kingfisher. The most critically endangered masked Finfoot and mangrove whistler have been reported from here. At least ten verities of eagle have been recorded in the myriad islands of Sundarbans. Among them, the Grey-headed Fish Eagle, White-bellied Sea Eagle and Pallas's Fish Eagle can make your birding trip an unforgettable one. Back in Kolkata, we will have an excursion to the surrounding areas for more birding opportunities and also have a chance to explore the great city of Kolkata.
The islands in Sundarbans cannot be accessed by foot, and therefore birding trips are conducted by small motorised boats that can traverse through the narrow creek and canals. In some of the islands, the watchtowers also provide good scope to watch the mangroves' magnificent feathered species. Sajnekhali Bird Sanctuary in the northern part of Sundarbans is a prominent birding area.
