A land of Migratory Water Birds
A vast expanse of water, fed by the mighty river Tista, becomes a home for thousands of migratory birds during winter. Gajoldoba, at a distance of 40 km from Siliguri, the gateway to North-East India, is a feather lovers delight. On the fringe of Baikunthapur Reserve Forest, Gajoldoba, a fishermen's village area, is now a buzzing destination for bird photographers across India.
With Bengal Tourism Department's initiative, Gajoldoba has now comfortable accommodation in a beautiful natural setting. The grand view of Mt Kunchenjungha adorns the Norther sky and an early morning reflection of snow mountains on the water is surreal.

  • Birding Watching - From November onwards, a huge number of birds, mainly ducks, from the Tibetan plateau and even Siberia start assembling in the water bodies. A fascinating list includes goosander, tufted Duck, Marsengers, Rudyshel duck, pintail duck, and Bar-headed goose. Along with ducks, several species of smaller migratory birds, including Golden Plover, Northern Lapwing, Sand-Plover and many rafters, osprey, and kingfishers, create a wonderful birding experience. A small canoe ride brings you close to the flocks giving you a stunning photo opportunity.
