Latpanchor
Offbeat Kurseong Hill
Latpanchor, a small picturesque village on the Tista Valley's lofty western bank, used to be an important cinchona plantation area during the colonial period. Situated on the highest point of Mahananda Wild Life Sanctuary at 1150 meters above sea level, Latpanchor presents a commanding view of dense virgin forests and mountains with exciting nature walks and bird watching opportunities.
Off late, Latpanchor is a popular homestay based travel circuit in the lower Darjeeling hills. This is mainly due to a fascinating view of Mt Kanchenjungha over the densely forested hills glorifying the horizons. The lack of modern hotels has thrown up the opportunity for homestay development, and a considerable number of small houses are now mushrooming in this area.
