Excursion - Based in Aritar, you can explore the higher ridges of Eastern Sikkim. A beautifully scenic road leads to Kupup at 4000 meters near the Indo China border. The incredible landscape dominated by the Kanchenjunga range and several alpine lakes makes the journey beyond Aritar an unforgettable one.
Popularly known as Aritar Lake, Lampokhri is an important tourist attraction in Aritar. At an altitude of 1400 meters, this is the only lake in Sikkim to offer a boating facility for tourists.
The Dak Bungalow or Ari-Bangla is an old British built bungalow with a century-old British history. Sir James Claude White, the first political officer of Sikkim during British rule in India, built this house in 1895. This Bungalow also used to be Sikkim's first treasury building.
You can also visit Aritar Gompa - a monastery of the Kagyuapa order and the most important religious centre in the area. Considered one of Sikkim's holiest and oldest, this monastery displays monastic arts splendour, reflecting its traditional architecture in carved & painted murals. This small monastery is a treasure house of ancient manuscripts and icons.
A sacred shrine of a Rai community known as Mankhim is located at 2000 meters on top of a hill and is a prime tourist attraction in Aritar. From here you can also visit Hattipilay – a small village on a remote hill.
Phushrey Lake is situated inside a forest on the upper ridges on the Aritar hill. A visit to the surrounding areas can be an excellent photographic experience.
